Besos: A Musical Comedy by Carles Alberola and Roberto GarcÃa
Besos is a musical comedy written by Carles Alberola and Roberto GarcÃa, two of the most acclaimed playwrights in the Valencian theatre scene. The play premiered in 1999 and has been performed in Madrid, Barcelona and other Spanish cities, as well as in France and Italy. Besos has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and has won several awards, such as the Max Award for Best Theatrical Author in 2000.
The play tells the story of six characters who are connected by their love songs. Each song is a memory, the music of the first kiss and also the last one, the words of love that helped them to fall in love with someone, without knowing that they would have to endure them for the rest of their lives. That is assuming that they managed to make them fall in love... Besos is much more than an excellent entertainment, as La Vanguardia points out; it is a sample of intelligent humor that captivates thousands of spectators and that has received unanimous applause from the press. "It has really splendid moments" (El Periódico). "A hilarious musical comedy of humor" (El Mundo). "A shower of fresh water and a success, more than sung, very sung" (Avui).
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the creation of Albena Teatre, the theatre company founded by Carles Alberola and Toni Benavent in 1994. To celebrate this milestone, Albena Teatre will revive Besos, one of its most emblematic works, with a new cast and a renewed staging. The play will be performed at the Teatre Principal de València from April 23 to May 2, 2023. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy a classic of contemporary Valencian theatre that will make you laugh and sing along with its unforgettable songs.
Besos is not only a musical comedy, but also a tribute to the songs that have marked the lives of many generations. The play features songs by artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat, Nino Bravo, Camilo Sesto, Mecano, Alaska, Miguel Bosé and many others. The songs are performed live by the actors, who also play instruments such as guitar, piano, saxophone and percussion. The musical direction is by Jaume Manresa, who has also composed some original songs for the play.
The new cast of Besos is composed of six talented actors and singers: Carles Alberola, Inés DÃaz, Verònica Andrés, Carme Juan, Noèlia Pérez and Alfred Picó. They will give life to the characters of Besos: a couple who is about to divorce, a young woman who falls in love with a married man, a man who is obsessed with his ex-girlfriend, a woman who is afraid of commitment, a gay couple who wants to have a child and a lonely woman who is looking for love. The actors will also play other roles, such as waiters, taxi drivers, doctors and singers.
The new staging of Besos is designed by Enric Solbes, who has also created the cover of the book edition of the play. The scenography consists of a minimalist set that evokes a bar where the characters meet and share their stories. The lighting is by Ximo Rojo and the sound by Jordi Llopis. The costumes are by Pascual Peris and the choreography by Cristina Fernández. The play is directed by Carles Alberola himself, who has also co-written the script with Roberto GarcÃa. aa16f39245
