Desmond to the Rox

Ian Desmond will be reporting for Spring Training 2017 in a Rockies uniform. On December 7th Desmond signed a 5yr/$70 million deal with the Colorado Rockies. Desmond coming off a year where he was an All-Star and played in the postseason, cost the Rockies a pretty penny, but they're getting a great player for their money. After being a short stop for the first few years of his career, he was forced to move to the outfield to get playing time for the Rangers. Desmond will probably play left field in the mile high city.

I really like this deal for both sides. Desmond is making what he deserves, and the Rockies are getting another big bat and a solid fielder. This deal most likely means the Rockies are out on slugger Mark Trumbo, unless they pursuit him to play first. If the Rockies make a few more deals to aid their pitching staff in the rotation and the bullpen, they could be fighting for the NL West with the Dodgers and Giants.
