J. D. Martinez Makes History
Monday in LA, en route to a 13-0 win, Diamondback’s right fielder J. D. Martinez made history accomplishing a feat that had only been done 17 times before he did it. In LA against the first place Dodgers Martinez hit 4 home runs in one game. Martinez joins Scotter Gennett as the only 2 people to accomplish this feat this season. The deadline acquisition of J. D. Martinez has already paid big dividends for the Diamondbacks, who currently lead the NL Wild Card race. Since being traded from the Tigers on July 18th, Martinez has hit 21 home runs while driving in 45 runs. After this historic night Martinez furthered his case for being the best trade deadline acquisition for any team in 2017. Although the D’backs offense was clicking the pitching was a bright spot that day as well as starter Robbie Ray dominated the Dodgers going 7.2 innings of shutout ball, including 5 perfect innings to start the game. Ray also accumulated a career high 14 strike outs in his outing against the Dodgers. This win also extended the Diamondback’s win streak to 11 games
